Feingold says Johnson trying to fool voters on Trump

Wisconsin Senate debate discusses presidential support, paid family leave

Democrat Russ Feingold is accusing Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson of trying to fool voters by saying he supports but does not endorse Donald Trump for president.

Johnson and Feingold are running in a rematch of their 2010 Senate race. Feingold made the comment on Wednesday, three days after Johnson said that supporting Trump doesn’t mean he’s endorsing the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.

Feingold says that’s an example of the “ultimate Washington insider game.” He says Johnson is trying to fool Trump supporters into thinking he’s with them, while also giving Trump opponents hope that he doesn’t back the billionaire businessman.

Feingold says Johnson “should use some responsibility and reject this candidacy because America should come ahead of political party or his own political neck.”
