Evelyn M. Backes

Evelyn M. Backes, age 84, of Janesville, died on Friday, May 11, 2012, at home. She was born in Janesville on May 15, 1927, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Rook) Lawrence. She graduated from Janesville High School in 1946, and married Clifford J. Backes in Fort Atkinson on March 2, 1946. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 2010. Evelyn retired from SSI in 1993, as a supervisor.

She survived by 7 nieces and nephews: Eugene “Genie” (Gail) Lawrence of Adams, Shirley Morgan of Edgerton, Karen (Doug) Martinsen of Burlington, Charles (Ann) Smith of Fort Atkinson, Dennis (Jill) Anderson and Denise (Danny) Kuehl both of Hustisford, Geoff Brereton of Wisconsin Dells,; numerous great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Helen Smith; 3 brothers, Eugene, Francis “Willard” and Robert Lawrence; 3 nieces: Pat Schultz, Judy Lawrence and Jane Brereton; and 2 nephews: Gary Smith and Gerald Lawrence.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY with Rev. James Kuhn officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY.
