Eugene Dieter, 83, of Rib Lake, WI formerly of Richland Center/Boaz; passed away on Thursday December 22, 2022, at home. He was born on February 4th, 1939, the second of ten children; to Rubert and Lucreda (Propp) Dieter in Richland Center. Eugene served in the United States Army from 1961-1963 being stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado, Fort Hood in Texas, and Fort Knox in Kentucky. On February 22nd, 1969, he was united in marriage to Mary (Anderson) Dieter. Together they moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin. They had one son, Royce.
Eugene started his auto career at Union Street Body Shop in Richland Center, continued with AMC Chrysler in Kenosha, and came to a pinnacle when together with his wife and son, they opened Dieter Auto Body in Boaz which was in service from 1987-2019. Eugene could often be found chasing down parts, socializing with various vendors, and taking coffee breaks. He was very proud of the business they created.
Eugene had a love for life. His senior yearbook quote was fittingly “You’re only young once.” Many times, his family would shake their heads at his antics. He had a passion for cars, snowmobiles, and the water. He spent a lot of time camping in De Soto, WI on the Mississippi River with his family and loved taking trips in his boat up and down the river. Eugene was also an active member of various snowmobile clubs and took trips to South Dakota and Wyoming to ride sled in the mountains in addition to uncountable trips to northern Wisconsin.
In August 2014, Eugene bought a lake home on Spirit Lake in northern Wisconsin. On the day he became the official owner, he told his granddaughter that he never thought he would be able to give his family the gift of a lake front home to enjoy forever. Eugene quickly began to consider Spirit Lake his new home and was given the unofficial title of the “Mayor of Spirit Lake” as he would cruise around the lake in his Ford Model A just “checking things out.”
Eugene is survived by his son Royce (Melissa) Dieter of Rib Lake, WI, granddaughter Heather (Zachary) Thome of Richland Center, grandson Nicholas (Vincent Suha) Pauls of Madison, WI, and great granddaughters Clara and Emma Thome. He is further survived by his siblings: Rose (Ted) Barry, Dennis (Dianne) Dieter, Robert (Sue) Dieter, Alvin (Linda) Dieter, Gary (Deb) Dieter, Dianna (Kirk) Kepler, David (Cindy) Dieter, Lynda Smith and Darrell Dieter; many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
