Error in 9th costs Mallards
Madison falls in 11 innings
Madison, Wis. — Lakeshore third baseman Brant Valach his an RBI double in the top of the 11th inning to beat the Mallards Sunday, but it was a Mike Reuvekamp error in the top of the ninth that cost the Mallards a run and sent the game to extras.
Mallards shortstop Mike Reuvekamp fielded a ground ball in the top of the ninth with a runner on third and two outs with the score tied 3-3, but his throw to first swas off the mark and allowed the runner from third to score.
The Mallards tied it in the bottom of the frame with an RBI groundout from Tate Matheny.
The Mallards got out of the gates fast, as Drew Weeks hit an RBI single that scored Matheny in the first. The Mallards other two runs came on a two-run home run from Bre Kimbell in the bottom of the sixth.
The Chinooks got on the board in the fifth. Mallards starter Greg Welsh struck out the first batter of the inning but allowed a home run, a double, a walk and another single before being relieved by Shawn Hunter.
Welsh went four-plus innings and allowed three runs on six hits.
