Ernest McQueen

WAUNAKEE/MIDDLETON-Ernest Wesley McQueen, age 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the Waunakee Manor.
He was born at home in Poynette on October 2, 1914, to Charles and Iva (Tompkins) McQueen. He graduated from Madison West High School and attended two years at U.W. Madison. Ernest entered the Army as a gunner from Dec. 1942 until Oct. 1945. He was a member of Middleton VFW Post 8216. He held various jobs in his lifetime, salesman, bus driver, his own root beer stand in Princeton, custodian for Middleton School District and retired from the state. Ernest enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, cards and bingo.
He never lost his sense of humor or smile and the love of his children. He married Evelyn (Herr) on January 28, 1941 in Beaver Dam. Together they had five children, Michael, of Colorado, David (Carolyn), of Middleton, Jo Jeanne (Bill) Frisch, of Middleton, Steve (Ann), of Arizona and Vicki (Ronald) Homburg, of Cottage Grove, also; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn in March 1993 and a sister Gladys.
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave. , Middleton at 6:00 PM on Monday, April 23, 2012, with the Reverend Curtis Everson presiding. Private burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Madison. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. John Ewalt, and everyone at Associated Physicians, his many dear friends at the Jefferson, Wauankee Manor, and Ron and Pam Brys.
