Eric M. Gramley

Eric M. Gramley, age 71, of Janesville, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017, at the Agrace Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Janesville with his wife by his side.

He was born in Akron, OH on Nov. 14, 1945, the son of Harold and Kathleen (Glassner) Gramley. He graduated from North High School in Akron in 1963. Eric served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era (1967-1971) with some time served aboard the USS Shangri-La Aircraft Carrier. On Sept. 13, 1969, he married Penny Polos in Akron, OH. He traveled extensively as a salesman for his entire career, working for Waltco Truck Equipment, Janesville Truck Equipment, Anthony Liftgates, and ultimately for himself, EM Gramley, Inc., as a manufacturer’s representative. These jobs led him to move his family from Akron to Kankakee, IL and finally settling in Janesville, WI in 1978. In 1986 Eric and Penny opened Penny’s Child Care Center where he was lovingly referred to as “Mr. Eric” by all the staff and children. Eric enjoyed the outdoors, aviation, boating, and spending time with his family, most especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Penny Gramley; 4 children: Kristi (Aaron) Filter of Janesville, Kimberly (Timothy) Lane of Janesville, Kara (Scott) Schmitz of Waunakee and Karyn Gramley of Janesville; 9 grandchildren: Brianna (Michael) Dorry, Jeffrey Lane, Justin, Jared and Jessica Filter, Quinn, Molly, Emily, and Ryan Schmitz; great granddaughter, JJ Dorry (due in September); 3 siblings: Dale (Dianne) Gramley of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Kathy Klein of Akron, OH and Carole (David) Brunelle of Garfield Heights, OH; brother-in-law, Alan Moore of Tallmadge, OH; and many other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kathleen and Joseph Winkler, Harold and Delores Gramley; in-laws, Gus and Mary Janice Polos; siblings, Gary Gramley and Gail “Missy” Moore’ and brother-in-law, Dale Klein.

A Memorial Service will be held 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2017, at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY with full military honors. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME.
