CROSS PLAINS- On August 5, 2017, Elsie Grob passed away at home. Elsie Aleda Rortvedt was born April 4, 1928, to Ole Rortvedt, an infant immigrant from Stavenger, Norway in 1881, and Alma (Kristianson) (Bredesen) Rortvedt, an immigrant from Christiania, Norway in 1921.

A second marriage for both Ole and Alma, they had four children together and Elsie was the youngest of a blended family with 12 children.Elsie graduated from Madison East High School. She married James Merlin Grob of Middleton at Middleton Community Church, Terrace Avenue, on September 18, 1948. For a brief time, Elsie and Jim owned a small trucking company. While Jim continued driving trucks, Elsie raised their two sons in Middleton. In 1971, Elsie and Jim bought a farm in Berry Township, Dane County. They never farmed the land but built a home there in 1972, where Elsie lived until last Saturday. Elsie enjoyed family trips when her sons were young, motorcycling, gardening, cooking, staying in touch with siblings and their families, and Packers football.

Elsie is survived by her sons, Robert “Bob” and Chad (Carol) Grob, Cross Plains, her sister, Ruth Jackson, of Virginia, her sister-in-law, Shirley (Laverne) Storkson, Madison, and many nieces, nephews and their children. Elsie’s parents, her brothers, Peter, Oscar, Melvin, Arthur, Edward, Roy, and Arne Rortvedt, and sisters, Clara Hein, Margit Groth and Haldis Wagener, predeceased her.

Friends and family may call at GUNDERSON CROSS PLAINS FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 2421 Church Street, Cross Plains, from 10:00 a.m. – noon on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. Elsie requested no formal service. She will be buried at Sunset Memory Gardens, Madison.
