Elizabeth “Betty” Simmons Eggers

Elizabeth “Betty” Simmons Eggers, age 74, of Dodgeville, died on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Bloomfield Health Care following a courageous battle with Glioblastoma.
Betty was born on May 6, 1943 in Minot, ND and moved to Illinois at a young age before moving to Wisconsin where she raised her family. Betty spent most of her career as a cook at Memorial Hospital of Iowa County and other area locations. Upon retirement, she spent the past 16 years loving and spoiling her granddaughter, Addie Simmons while building many other strong friendships. Betty’s true calling was helping others. She was known well for sharing her famous chocolate chip cookies. Betty also had a love of knitting and took great pride in donating hats and gloves to Upland Hills and Iowa County Social Services. She had recently began helping with Feeding Friends at the Dodgeville United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim Eggers and a son, Bill Simmons.
Betty is survived by her children, Don (Sara) Simmons of Missoula, MT; Kathy (Doug) Dietrich of San Leon, TX; Tom (Kathy) Simmons Jr. of Whitefish, MT; Mary (Jeff) Free of Wahpeton, ND; Margie Wright of Warren, IL and Jason (Nicole) Simmons of Dodgeville; nine grandchildren; many great grandchildren; a special sister-in-law, Irene (John) Marean of Scioto Mills, IL as well as many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home in Dodgeville. Pastor Jim Droste will officiate with burial in Graceland Cemetery in Mineral Point. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday after 2:00 P.M.
Betty’s family wish to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Bloomfield Healthcare; Agrace HospiceCare and Dr. Jody McGraw for their compassionate care during her illness.
