Betty was born on February 21, 1921 in Orange, NJ. She was an actuarial statistician at Prudential Insurance.

Following World War II, she married Fred Applegate, whom she had known since childhood together at North Orange Baptist Church. She loved to play bridge, was a daily crossword puzzler, enjoyed Crypto-Quotes and jigsaw puzzles. She was also quite a good tap-dancer.When her husband retired in 1983, they moved to a farm in Arlington to be nearer daughter Judy and her children.

Betty was active in T.O.P.S. (and then K.O.P.S.) and Homemakers. She and Fred were active and involved grandparents and were often seen in the stands at Lodi High School, at many local fairs and events, and they made frequent visits to see son Fred and his family in California. Eventually, they relocated to Settler’s Trail in Lodi. Fred passed away in September of 2010, at which time Betty became a resident of Tivoli at Divine Savior.

She is survived by her children Judy (Thomas) Klahn of Lodi, and Fred (Cherie Sprosty) Applegate of New York City; Judy’s children Lindsay (John) Ribolzi, Thomas Klahn and Andrea (Tim Feyereisen) Klahn, Fred’s children Ben (Winnie Chang), Meredith and Ethan, and Lindsay’s son, her great-grandson, Wesley.
