Elections Board To Discuss Recall Timing

The Wisconsin state elections board was to consider asking a judge to set any recall elections this year on May 15 and June 12.

Those are the dates recommended by staff of the Government Accountability Board. Retired judges who comprise the board were to consider the request Monday.

If the board agrees, the timeline will then be taken to Dane County Circuit Judge Richard Niess on Wednesday. The judge has to agree to the dates, otherwise any recalls must be on May 1 and May 29.

But elections board officials say they need more time to finish their review of signatures submitted seeking the recalls of Gov. Scott Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch. Board official say there are enough signatures for recalls against four GOP state senators to proceed.
