Elections board looks at ballot design

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin’s elections board is considering changes to its model ballot design following a lawsuit earlier this year that argued the ballot was confusing and unfair.

The Government Accountability Board was to vote Tuesday on what it wants a model ballot to look like for the spring election. Counties are required to “substantially follow” the model ballot but ultimately local officials can design the ballots as they wish.

One of the issues raised in the lawsuit filed by Republican legislative leaders was that the fall model ballot was confusing because it did not have shading or a line after the title of the office and the name of the first candidate.

The board is set to vote on a motion that would allow for lines on the spring model ballot.
