Edna Regina Ruhland
On Tuesday, June 19, 2012 we said goodbye to our mother Edna Regina Ruhland as she journeyed on from her earthly home to continue her life in her heavenly home. She was born on the farm in Roxbury, July 7, 1932 to the late Clarence and Olivia (Frey) Haas. Early on, nurtured by her education at St. Norbert’s School, she felt she was destined to be a nun as she developed a strong love for God and the church. However, she met Victor John Ruhland at a dance at Fish Lake, fell in love and married him on May 30, 1951 in Roxbury, and so began her true calling and the biggest challenge of her life-raising eleven children.
In between changing diapers and frying pancakes, she always found time to help others and held positions such as the head of the Christian Mothers Association and other groups at St. Aloysius Church in Sauk City. All of her life she remained devout in faith and prayer and in love for God and through this accomplished all things she endeavored to do. When we children were all grown, she called Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk City to inquire about a job and asked “How are you getting along without me?” She was hired on the spot. She eventually became the Director of the Activities Department. Some of her fondest duties were that of leading the German Club and hosting the Happy Hour.
With her sincere kindness and genuine honesty, she impacted the lives of many of you along the way and we are thankful for your friendship and kindness in return. It did not go unnoticed. And perhaps her most profound and enduring legacy is not found in any degree of fame or accomplishment, but, that she multiplied her love and compassion for others by instilling this in her eleven children, thirty-two grand and great-grandchildren. She did her part. Now it falls to us to do our part..to spread her good will and cheer.
She is survived by her eleven children, Janelle (Duane, Lindsey, Cassie) Eller, Daryl (Mary, Kristie, Lorelee, Alicia) Ruhland, Wayne (Janet, Becky, Ben) Ruhland, Michelle (Alan, Nicole, Melissa, Emily) Kalscheuer, Mary (Mark, Chad, Kara) Pings, Allan (Patti, Paige, Quinn, Blake) Ruhland, Victoria (Doug, Derek, Darren) Yanke, Walter (Brenda, Matthew, Heather, Kayla, Kaitlyn, Kara) Ruhland, Dean (Sherri, Travis, Nathan, Tyler) Ruhland, Jerilyn (Steve, Raquel, Kaitlyn, Karissa) Johnson and Gerard Ruhland; sisters, Florence (Cyril) Kraemer, Lucille Reisinger, Mildred (Kenneth) Noltner, Marlene (Tom) Helt, Mary (Clarence) Dresen and one brother, Werner (Diane) Haas. She was preceded in death by her husband Victor; her parents; sisters, Rita Ballweg, Irene Fuchs/Walsh/Stemke, Bernice Bowers; and brothers, Earl and Herman Haas.
We miss you mom. Glad you made it “home!” A very special thanks to Ed and Betty Kruchten and their excellent staff at the Waunakee Manor Nursing Home where Edna lived for the past nine years; to Dr. Ranum, Nancy Wilde NP and every department, you all made her life like home. An extra special thanks to the CNA’s for all those trips to the kitchen for extra coffee and ice cream.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 11:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 209 South St., Waunakee with Msgr. James Gunn officiating. Friends may call on Sunday, June 24, 2012 from 3:00pm until 6:30pm at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Sauk City.
