PARISI INVESTS IN TOURISM

Tourism is in many ways the ideal economic development strategy. It’s clean, it’s sustainable, it brings other people’s money into the local economy – what’s not to like? It does require a good sales team, and it also requires some up front investing, which is why we’re so high on last week’s announcement of a multi-year contract between Dane County and the Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The CVB is a talented bunch and under Deb Archer’s leadership they’ve brought a ton of business to our community with much less support than most tourism operations. But County Exec. Joe Parisi, who has been on quite an economic development roll recently, recognized the opportunity to help the CVB attract even more conventions and visitors to our eminently salable region and he approved the first long-term deal with the Bureau. We like it. It’s collaborative, it’s good business and it’s good for business for all of Greater Madison.
