Editorial: Help end gerrymandering

It wouldn’t be accurate to say now the work really starts. Too many people have been working to end partisan, unethical and unfair redistricting for too long now. But given the US Supreme Court’s recent refusal to end the unlawful practice, Tuesday’s press conference and formal introduction of two bills to ban drawing district boundaries to ensure the re-election of incumbents takes on added significance.

The only way to convince our elected officials to return to the people the right to pick their legislators is an outpouring of citizen voices. We know poll results show overwhelming support for banning partisan redistricting. Senate Bill 288 and Assembly Bill 303 would do just that. Now, we have to let every State senator and State representative know we expect them to do the right thing and support these bills. There are actually three Republican co-sponsors. There will be more if you demand it. Please do so.
