Edith A. Barrette

Edith A. Barrette

MADISON-Edith A. Barrette, age 86, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Agrace HospiceCare.

She was born on June 19, 1930, in Heidelberg, Germany the daughter of Friedrich and Magdalena (Schwobel) Frauenfeld.

Edith married Raymond Barrette on Sept. 14, 1964, in Waukegan, Ill. She created a family here and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother “Oma”, and great-grandmother. Edie retired as a housekeeping supervisor for the Sheraton Hotel. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards (Rummy 500) with her family and friends, was a sports fan, a great cook and baker, and enjoyed her cigarettes and brandy with water.

Edie had a crass and boisterous sense of humor and a firm sense of discipline. She was never a quiet or meek woman and she let you know exactly what she was thinking, and it was her way, or it was her way. There was really no second option.

Edie is survived by sons, Gary Popp and Keith (Katherine) Popp; daughter, Laurie Popp; eight grandchildren, Shannon (Brandy) Popp, Kyra (Todd Snortum) Popp, Karen (David) Ferris, Jennifer Orszula, Jonathan Popp, Ashley (Josh Randall) Popp, Danielle (Josh) Gest and Kaitlin (Daniel) Sonday; seven great-grandchildren, Elyse, Isabella, Alexander, Isaak, Zoey, Keller and Aubrey, with granddaughter, Danielle expecting in August; and former daughter-in-law, Jane Ellwood. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Peter Popp; sisters, Gretel Englert, Susanne Hahn and Irmgard A. Fonrodona; and brothers, Franz, Fritz and Victor Frauenfeld. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 19, 2017, with the Rev. Jerry Amstutz presiding. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare in recognition of the loving care that they provided for our mother. She is survived by a legacy; in the life that she led, the close friends she collected, and in the great big family she created. Bodily gone, but forever in our hearts. Auf Wiedersehen, Edie.
