Eda Virginia Bade

MONONA/MADISON-Eda Virginia Bade, age 92, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at her home at Prairie Gardens in Sun Prairie.

She was born on Nov. 14, 1924 in Muscoda, the daughter of Malinda (Mueller) and Ervin Genske. Eda married Raymond Bade on Nov. 14, 1944, and together raised three children while living in Monona; Rose, Shirley and Bob. She loved being a mother and loved to dance and sew. Eda was especially proud of the fantastic sparkly jackets she tailored for Bob’s bands in the 60’s (he still wears them) and her happy feet were usually wearing sparkly shoes. She also cleaned houses in Monona, including the home and studio of artist, Aaron Bohrod, and later was a housekeeper at St. Mary’s Hospital. After retirement, Eda moved to Las Vegas with her dear friend Sid Sweet and spent 15 years tearing up the dance floor and sampling buffets. She was a regular at the bunko table, did crossword puzzles to keep her mind sharp, and excelled at Scrabble, often defeating her kids. After two years in Phoenix, she moved back to Madison in 2012 to be with family.

Eda was incredibly kind, sweet and loving. She is missed dearly. Eda is survived by her three children, Rose (Paul) Schatz, Shirley Goldbin and Bob (Winnie) Bade; four grandchildren, Steve (Jane) Wegner, JoRene (Mike) Burdgick, Vicki (Tyler) York and Criss (Will) Clement; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Dolores “Tootie” Koch and Eleanor Fallis; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Genske. She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Raymond Bade; brothers, George Genske, Arnold Genske and Alvin Genske; brothers-in-law, Fritz Koch and Ray Fallis; sisters-in-law, Fran Genske and Leona Genske; son-in-law, LeRoy Goldbin; and beloved friend, Sid Sweet.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017, with Dexter Newallo presiding. A luncheon will follow the service followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the staffs at Agrace HospiceCare and Prairie Gardens for their incredible kindness and compassionate care, and also to Eda’s next door neighbor, Joyce for her love and friendship which meant so much to Eda.
