East side Walgreens robbed at gunpoint Sunday

MADISON, Wis. — Madison police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a Walgreen’s pharmacy on the city’s east side Sunday morning, police said.

In a news release, police said a robber entered the pharmacy, located at 2909 East Washington Avenue, at 8:54 a.m. and held up the cashier at gunpoint. He took an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot, police said.

Witnesses told police the robber was last seen leaving the pharmacy and heading south, the release said. A K-9 unit searched the area, but did not locate the robber, police said.

Police described the robber as a black man in his mid-twenties to mid-thirties who was last seen wearing a gray hoodie and dark or black pants.

Madison police Sgt. Eric Tripke said detectives are investigating whether the incident is related to an attempted armed robbery at a motel on the city’s far east side Saturday morning. In that incident, the robber left empty-handed.
