Earl W. Appenzeller

Earl W. Appenzeller, 80, of Platteville, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Finley Hospital, Dubuque, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Rev. Jeff Pedersen will officiate. Military Rites will be accorded by VFW Post #5274 and American Legion Post #42. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Earl W. Earl was born on January 5, 1937 in Red Wing, Minnesota, the son of James and Myrtle (Torrey) Appenzeller. He graduated from Platteville High School in 1956. Earl was united in marriage to Jolene (VanDeWeil) Jansen on September 22, 2006 at the court house in Dubuque, Iowa. Right after high school Earl worked at Simes A Line in Dubuque and later at John Deere Dubuque Works, where he retired from after 30 years. He was a member of the 229 Infantry National Guard in Platteville where he served in Desert Storm. Earl was a member of the National Guard until he was nearly 60 years old. Most recently, Earl worked at the Platteville Wal Mart.

Earl is survived by his wife, Jolene of Platteville; four children, Jeffery (Jennifer) Appenzeller of Racine, WI; Scott Appenzeller of Union Grove, WI; Brian (Mary) Appenzeller of Burlington, WI; and Ann Appenzeller of Platteville; six grandchildren; sister, Verla Engelke of Platteville; sister-in-law, Pat Ruchti of Des Moines, IA; brothers-in-law, Fred (Janice) VanDeWeil of Potosi, WI; Mike (Chris) VanDeWeil of Platteville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Mary Lou; brother-in-law, Donald Engelke; and nephew, Terry Engelke.
