Dueling rallies drum up support for gubernatorial candidates
Candidates hope to foster votes for Tuesday's recall election
MADISON, Wis. — As Tuesday’s recall election approaches, two dueling rallies in Madison on Friday pulled out all the stops to drum up support for their candidates.
Tom Morello from the alternative-rock band Rage Against the Machine and many other performers, including singer-songwriter Jackson Browne, took to the stage on Friday at the Labor Temple on Park Street to garner support for gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett.
“We’re here to stand in solidarity with the people of Wisconsin. The workers and the middle class of Wisconsin are trying to oust a horrendous governor,” Morello said.
The Labor Temple will be busy Saturday with volunteers spending the weekend reaching out to voters, WISC-TV reported
A few miles away, a Tea Party rally took place on the grounds of the Alliant Energy Center in support of Gov. Scott Walker on Fridat.
There, a national Tea Party bus tour made a stop, kicking off its cross-country trek.
“We’re here to help and to applaud what’s going on and urge the changes that the governor has made and some of the legislators have made to brighten the future of Wisconsin,” said Lew Uhler, president of the National Tax Limitation Committee.
14443602Tea Partiers said if Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch win on Tuesday, it will create momentum for the presidential election this fall.
It’s going to be a busy few days for both candidates, as they’re in the home stretch.
Tom Barrett will spend Saturday campaigning in far northern Wisconsin. Governor Walker will be traveling statewide.
