Drivers cited for operating under influence of prescription drugs

Two drivers were cited for driving under the influence of prescription drugs by law enforcement officers trained to identify drug impaired drivers, according to a release.

Officials responded to a 911 caller who reported a gray Cadillac driving erratically on Highway 51 near Pleasantville Road in the town of Dunkirk, according to the release.

The deputy found and stopped the vehicle on Highway 51 near Highway 138 Wednesday around 10:30 a.m., according to the release.

Officials said Lynn M. Zeal, 52, of Albany, was cited for operating while intoxicated first offense after an evaluation by a drug recognition expert.

A second incident occurred Thursday around 8:30 a.m. where deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 12 near Highway K in the town of Springfield, according to the release.

Officials said Paul H. Stratton, 43, of Waunakee, had rear-ended another vehicle that was stopped at a stop sign. No one was injured in the crash.

Stratton was evaluated by a DRE, taken to a local hospital to obtain a blood sample, and was cited for OWI first offense, according to the release. He was also cited for possession of a controlled substance.

DRE examiners use a 12-step process to establish impairment, according to the release.

Officials said in both of these incidents the drivers admitted to being under the influence of multiple medications.
