Driver stopped at narrow shoulder charged with 7th OWI

Police said a man was charged with his seventh drunken driving offense early Sunday.
McFarland police said an officer on patrol spotted a vehicle stopped on a narrow shoulder at an overpass on northbound Highway 51 at 3:11 a.m. One person was standing outside the vehicle.
The officer spoke to the person outside the vehicle who said he and the driver were arguing. In speaking with 37-year-old James M. Frutiger, the officer said he came to believe the driver had been drinking.
Frutiger was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated and taken to Dane County Jail. Police said Frutiger had six prior OWI arrests.
