Driver could be charged in fatal car surfing

The St. Paul, Minn. man behind the wheel in a car surfing accident that killed one of his best friends is expected to be criminally charged in Wisconsin.

The 21-year-old driver has posted bond after his arrest in Burnett County on a possible charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. He’s due in court Wednesday.

Twenty-one-year-old Shawn Swanson was killed after he climbed on top of an SUV last Saturday with his four friends inside. His mother, Renee Swanson, tells the Star Tribune (http://tinyurl.com/8zk4dnj ) they were “going faster than they should’ve been” and her son fell off the vehicle and hit his head.

Swanson and his friends from St. Paul Johnson High School were in Wisconsin for a weekend of boating and fishing.
