Motorists will be able to use streets near the Capitol Square that were previously closed due to construction.

Starting Wednesday, drivers will be able to drive on Fairchild Street between West Washington Avenue and Hamilton Street. Parts of Doty Street will also reopen.

There will be a change to the lane assignments during heavy travel hours, according to the city of Madison. Between 4 -5 p.m. on Monday through Fridays, parking will be removed from the right side of the road. Instead, there will be a larger parking lane for metro buses  when they need to be detoured from te Capitol Square.

During other parts of the week, roads in this area will operate as they normally have, with parking on both sides, two lanes for vehicle traffic and a bike lane, according to a city news release.

Signs will be placed around this area to notify motorists of the different lane assignments during the different points of the day. Electronic overhead signs will be added in the near future that will change during the day to help out motorists and bicyclists in the area.
