Dorothy C. Littel
MADISON – Dorothy C. Littel, age 92, died on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Waunakee Manor Nursing Home. Our family lost our mother, mother in law, grandmother and best friend who provided unconditional love to each and every one of us. Dorothy was born on December 16, 1919, in Roxbury, the daughter of John and Minnie (Loye) Koeppel. She was married to Joseph Littel in Madison. Dorothy was a tireless worker, both at home, raising her family and at time spent working at Bormann’s as a seamstress, an in-home childcare provider, and later working at National Guardian Life Insurance Company. Because of her love of children, after her retirement, she volunteered as a Foster Grandmother at the Wisconsin Center for over twenty years. Her ability to care for and communicate with the residents was truly remarkable. She especially loved her grandchildren and enjoyed the nightly calls that were made to her just to say, “Hello” and the always welcomed, “How are you Grandma?” She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, The Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge.
She is survived by her children, John (Jeanne) Littel of Green Bay, and Virginia (Richard) Maly of Madison; her grandchildren; Michael (Courtney) Maly, Michele Maly, Kyra Littel and Kristopher Littel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Loretta Drunasky, Irene Eberle, Cecelia Foster, Evelyn Pertzborn and Bernice Walker; and two brothers Anthony and Robert Koeppel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012 at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 North Sherman Avenue, with Msgr. Charles Schluter officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Monday.
A special thank you would like to be extended from the family to all the staff at Waunakee Manor Nursing Home “You have allowed Dorothy to leave this world with the dignity and grace that she so deserved.” We also wish to thank Terry Patwell who was not only her doctor but a friend. Mom collected angels and found peace knowing that her guardian angels were always around her – mom you are now soaring with the Angels. Your precious smile and love for all of us will be greatly missed but never forgotten. We love you and will always miss you.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family to be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to local animal rescue groups in Dorothy’s memory.
