Doris was born on November 3, 1923, in Lima Township to Lena(Condry) and Will Weittenhiller. After attending Livingston High School, Doris moved to Madison where she graduated from the then Madison Business College. She remained in Madison, working for two branches of the Armed Forces, Army/Air Force and the Navy until her marriage to Staff Sergeant Arthur O’Neill in 1946. The couple moved to Platteville and opened O’Neill’s Shoes, forming a working partnership for over 37 years. Doris handled the bookkeeping and Art handled the sales and marketing. Mom was a modern working woman and a devoted wife and mother. She reluctantly went into retirement in 1984 and she and Art spent their years traveling and having new adventures with family and friends. Mom was a firm believer in the benefits of exercise and had an eye for dressing fashionably. She walked and did stretching and calisthenics into her early 90s and loved putting outfits together. She passed this along to her daughter Jonie and granddaughter Jennifer. Family, faith and friendships marked her life. Doris volunteered for many years with the Hospital Auxiliary in the gift shop.
Doris is survived by her daughter Jonie and son-in-law Lyle Paye, her granddaughter, Jennifer(Matt)Cambio and her great-grandsons Joseph, Nicholas and William. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Arthur, her sister Carol Dobson, her brother Merrill Weittenhiller and infant brother Waynard.
