DEERFIELD/MADISON – Doris L. Stanley, age 94, of Madison passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on Aug. 13, 1917, in LaCrosse, the daughter of Frank and Ruby (Rarick) Nieland.

Doris married her high school sweetheart, Armour Stanley, on June 17, 1942, in LaCrosse. She lost her husband at an early age and discovered an inner strength that served her the rest of her life. Doris relocated with her two children to Deerfield to be nearer to her family and worked for the State of Wisconsin for over 30 years. She loved to sew, bake, and entertain. Doris also enjoyed gardening and had a gift for nurturing beautiful roses. She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.

Doris is survived by her children, Sheila (Harland) Klagos of Madison and Bob (Jeanne) Stanley of McFarland; two grandchildren, Jessica and Robbie Stanley; and several nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Fern (Clayton) Ingwell and Ruby Longfellow; and brother, Leonard Nieland.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2012. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Sunday. Private burial will be at Deerfield Lutheran Cemetery.
