Doris L. Nygard

Doris L. Nygard, age 91, of Bismarck, N.D. passed away peacefully on Dec, 14, 2012, at her “home away from home” in Madison.
Doris Marie Larson was born July 3, 1921, in Mayville, N.D. Doris attended Mayville High School, graduating in 1939 prior to pursuing her degree at NDSU (then ND Agricultural College) in home economics. It was there that she met Clifford Nygard, who she married on Dec.19, 1942. They moved to Bismarck in 1949. Doris was an exceptional homemaker. Doris was involved and held offices in both Faculty Wives and the Bismarck-Mandan Home Economics Association. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the ELKS. She served faithfully at Trinity Lutheran Church for over 50 years. She was a loving and kind hearted woman, who never complained, regardless of the health issues that troubled her throughout her life. Remembered by her family as one with a fantastic sense of humor, the laughter will continue as the stories are retold.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Cliff Nygard; her parents; and her siblings. She is survived by her four children, Virginia Nygard Wood of Trinidad/Bismarck, N.D., Gordy Nygard of Phoenix, Ariz., Judy (Mike) Broekemeier of Mora, Minn., and Joni Nygard (Tim Heggestad) of Madison; five grandchildren, Marie (Buon) Nguyen of Surprise, Ariz., Stephanie Nygard of Phoenix, Ariz., Bryan Nygard of Parker, Ariz., Sadie (Jacob) Hosley of Champlain, Minn., and Daniela Heggestad of Madison; along with five great-grandchildren, and many very special nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH in Bismarck, N.D., with Pastor Steve Sathre officiating. Visitation takes place Dec. 19, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at PARKWAY FUNERAL HOME, Bismarck, N.D.
