Doris I. Davis, 89, of Platteville, died on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Platteville United Methodist Church. Rev. Brenda Whitford will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church. Doris was born on August 19, 1922 in Muscoda, Wisconsin, to her birth parents, Charles and Flossie (Ellis) Lemke. She was adopted by her aunt and uncle, George and Ida (Ellis) Burton when she was five years old. She attended Lancaster High School. Her early years were spent farming in the Lancaster area. She married Dean W. David on April 25, 1959 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1993. In 1961 they moved to Platteville and owned and operated a Minneapolis Moline implement shop. Doris worked for many years at Dick’s Bakery. The Rountree Restaurant, Land’s End and Glenview Commons at UW-Platteville.
She enjoyed baking, music and spending time with her family and her dear friends. She continued her talent of playing the piano by ear her entire life. She was a member of the Eastern Star, VFW Women’s Auxiliary and the Relief Corps.
Doris is survived by two sons, Gary (Judy) Steinbach of Richmond, KY; Dennis (Sue) Davis of Naperville, IL; daughter, Deanne (Kirk) Kindred of Allen, TX; six grandchildren, Tara and Shana Steinbach, Olivia and Trevor Davis, and Devin and Natalie Kindred.
