Doris Evelyn McCluskey

Doris E. McCluskey of Sun Prairie, WI passed peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, May 26th at approximately 7:30 a.m just shy of her 88th birthday.
Born June 12, 1924, Doris completed her high school years graduating from Sibley, Iowa High School. Having always wanted to be a teacher, she started by taking a summer course from Iowa State Teachers College following high school graduation. She began her teaching career in a rural one-room schoolhouse teaching about 30 children from grades 1-8. After a year, she served as a missionary to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota for two years returning to teaching back home. During the summer months she worked as a waitress in Yankton, South Dakota where she met Harry who was a frequent visitor at the diner and requested Doris, but never left more than a penny tip. They married March 16, 1957. Times were a little rough that first year until Harry’s sister June from Chicago came for a visit and convinced them to move. They began their life in the Chicago area in a mobile home in Oak Lawn where they were introduced to the Oak Lawn Bible Church. Both Harry and Doris served many, many years in many capacities within that church and still maintained close friendships with past friends. Moving from Oak Lawn to Worth, IL they made their home raising 3 girls for 24 years. Doris continued as a kindergarten teacher at Oak Lawn Bible Church until 1971 when she retired to be home with her daughters. She continued to be involved in many church and community activities, serving as Village Trustee for the town of Worth, as a committee member for the Worth Library, and Oak Lawn Bible Church Awana (youth group) Secretary. Upon retirement after an accident that left Harry disabled, they moved to Winter Haven, FL where she served for 20 years at Faith Baptist Church in their Awana program and many other church activities before moving to Sun Prairie eight years ago. She was a current member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Sun Prairie and participated in the American Legion Blood Drive activities at the donor registration and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 333. Doris was one who impacted your life and world sometimes without you even knowing it at the time; she will sorely be missed. She is preceeded in death by her husband of 53 years, Harry J. McCluskey.
She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Bredahl (Joliet, IL), Linda (Dennis) Norton (Sun Prairie), and Nancy (Tim) Quiggle, (Worth, IL); nine grandchildren, Dawn (Isabore) Hibbler (Gary, IN) , Alan Quiggle (Chicago, IL ), Brian Quiggle (Chicago, IL), Daniel Quiggle (Worth, IL), Lisa (Aaron) Young (Sun Prairie), Erin (Adam) Salmon (Columbus, WI), Richard (Buddy) Wilson and Danielle Rowland (Sun Prairie, WI), Kristina (Corey) Edwards (DeForest, WI) and Sarah Norton (Sun Prairie); eight great grandchildren, Jacob, Victoria and Elisabeth Hibbler (Gary, IN), Triniti and Tristin Rowland (Sun Prairie), Josephine and Grace Young (Sun Prairie) and Sawyer Salmon (Columbus); a sister, Marlys Mattson (Wilmar, MN), a brother, Merlin Wirskye; a brother/sister-in-law, Charles (Elaine) McCluskey (Arlington, SD) and a sister-in-law, June Ray (Westmont, IL) and numerous nieces and nephews.
