SUN PRAIRIE – Donald L. Mohoney, age 88, of Sun Prairie, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at home with his family by his side, after battling cancer.

Don was born on July 1, 1923, in La Farge, to Victor and Lela (Trappe) Mohoney.

In 1925, the family moved to Wauzeka, where he attended school and graduated in 1941. World War II was in progress and Don decided to enlist into the Army Air Corps where he was an integral part of the development and installation of R.A.D.A.R def

In 1951, he married Eudora Kalowinski and was stationed at Eielson Air Force Base, just outside Fairbanks, Alaska where they raised their children together.

They had five children, Debra (deceased), Victor (Jayne), Jerry (DeAnn), James and Tina (Steve) Nale. Don was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Debra; and brothers-in-law, Lawrence Teynor and Lowell McFall.

Besides his wife; children; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; he is further survived by sisters, Doris Teynor of Sun Prairie and Dorothy McFall of McFarland; brother Kenneth (Irene) of Prairie du Chien; and many nieces and nephews.

Don was a master of many things, and had a memory that amazed. He developed Kickapoo Caverns in Wisconsin, ran a newspaper in Gays Mills, was a home builder, and pilot and so much more. Don will be remembered for his kindness and caring nature, and will be greatly missed.

Don’s family would like to thank Agrace Hospice for their compassion and special care and to Sunny Ray, Don’s lifelong friend and flying buddy.

Memorial Service will be held at PRAIRIE PARK SENIOR APTS., Community Room 6530 Schroeder Road Madison, Saturday, June 9, 2012. Service at 11 a.m., with a luncheon to follow, for family and close friends only.
