Donald J. Kreul

MADISON – Donald J. Kreul, age 90, passed away on Septmeber 2, 2017. He was born in Waunakee, WI the son of Alfred and Mary (Doll) Kreul.

He married Catherine A. Statz on September 1, 1951. He attended Waunakee High School and Madison Business College. He was employed for many years as an estimator at Kupfer Iron Works. Donald enjoyed gardening, hiking, bowling, golfing and helping others. He was a charter member of Alliance for the Mentally Ill (AMI) founded in Dane County in 1977 which led to the State and National organizations. He graciously spent his time and talent volunteering in AMI, Off the Square Club, and advocating for the disadvantaged. His compassion and dedication to the community was also demonstrated by his efforts with the Luke House Meal Program, President of East Madison Little League, tutoring in schools, serving decades as Scout Master, member of the Knights of Columbus, and participating in many church activities such as visiting the home bound. He received Catholic Charities Volunteer of the Year award and was a ” Know Your Madisonian”. He served in the Navy during WWII.

Donald is survived by his sons Kevin and David; his sister Beverly, and his sister-in-law, Laura Blakeslee. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Catherine; his son Michael; his sister Lavonne Postle; and his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Friday, September 8, 2017 at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 North Sherman Avenue, Madison, with Msgr. Charles Schluter presiding. A visitation will be held from 4:30pm until a rosary at 7pm on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 North Sherman Avenue, Madison and again from 10am until time of Mass on Friday at the church.
