Donald G. Asplin

Donald George Asplin passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 in the love and comfort of his family. He was 1 of ten children born to Florence (Gerhardt) and Charles Asplin in Neillsville, Wisconsin.
He married Norma June Brooks on July 7, 1951. They were fortunate to take many wonderful vacations together, their favorite being Las Vegas. Norma preceded him in death on September 17, 1996.
Several years after Norma’s death, he was fortunate to meet Carol Floyd. They shared 12 years of joy, companionship and love.
Don was employed in the appliance sales and service business until his well earned retirement in 2010.
Don enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing but most of all he had a green thumb when it came to gardening. His flower garden on North Avenue, Middleton was a sight to behold.
He was a member of the Middleton Ionic Lodge #180 F and AM and a mentor and leader to many. He held many positions during his tenure and was the Worshipful Master in 1983 as well as the chaplain. He also was active with the Order of the Eastern Star. Don received his 32 Degree/Scottish rite and was a member of other Masonic organizations and the Madison Zor Shriners where he was very proud to take part in the Middleton Good Neighbor parade with the marching and motorcycle units.
Don leaves behind 4 children Sheila (John) Manderino, Carol (“Horton” Dan) Roach, David, and Jim (Chris) Asplin, six grandchildren Sam (Christa Neuser) Manderino, Lisa (Cory) Day, Jessica (Brian) Ripp, Stacie (Kyle) Brabender, Emily Roach, and Sophia Fusco, as well as 2 great grandchildren, Amelia and Dean Ripp, two sisters, Velda Walker and Jean (Wendall) Suckow, along with Carol Floyd’s 3 daughters Laura, Julie, Tracy and 5 grandchildren. His dog and constant companion, Lola will miss her perch on the arm of his chair.
In addition to Norma, he was preceded in death by his parents, son, Douglas, and 7 siblings.
Don enjoyed simple times with family and friends and we will miss his knowledge, humor and love.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave, Middleton where a Masonic service and prayer will follow conducted by the Middleton Ionic Lodge #180 F and AM. Private family burial will be held.
In lieu of gifts, donations can be made to Agrace Hospice, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway Madison, WI 53711, Lung Association or the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Toby Campbell and Annette, with Agrace HospiceCare, for their loving care and compassion of Donald.
