Donald Colonel Squire

Donald Colonel Squire, 83, of Janesville, WI, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, August 20th at Agrace Center for Hospice & Palliative Care in Janesville, WI.
He was the oldest of 8 children, born on May 2nd, 1934, in Cashton, WI to the late Colonel and Bernice (Berens) Squire. After losing his father at a young age, Don helped his mother to raise his 7 younger siblings. In 1952, he graduated high school and joined the Marine Corp. going on to serve in the Korean War. Upon his return, he attended college at UW Lacrosse for 2 years. On November 19th of 1955 Don married Deloris Steinhoff and together they had 5 children. Don started his career with Standard Oil in Cashton, WI and transferred to Janesville, WI in 1967. In 1969, ironically, he purchased Don’s Moving & Delivery System Inc. and developed the business into a successful regional trucking company. Don retired in 1998 and has been enjoying his winters with Deloris in Arizona ever since. Don was an active parishioner of St John Vianney Church where he was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing tennis and most of all, socializing. Don loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. His blue eyes and bright smile will be missed by all.
Don is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Deloris; his children: Deborah (Mike) Olmsted, Janesville, WI, D. Stephen (Donna) Squire, Milton, WI, Andrea (Todd) Brien, Grosse Pointe Park, MI, and Nancy (Greg) Creighton, Lakeville, MN; his 8 grandchildren: Matt Brill, Jennifer (Dan) Gunn, Zach Creighton, Caroline Squire, Alexandra Creighton, Dalton Olmsted, Tyler Brien and Adam Brien; his 4 great grandsons: Charlie Gunn, Tripp Gunn, Brixton Squire and Cashton Colonel Gunn; his 3 brothers: Paul (Hertha) Squire, Doug (Ann) Squire and Dave (Mary) Squire; his 3 sisters: Esther Silha, Marilyn Squire and Carole Nevin; and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Colonel and Bernice; sister, Betty McKee; and son, Dwayne.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH with Rev. Joseph Baker officiating. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY is assisting the family.
