Don “Jake” Jacobson

Don “Jake” Jacobson

MADISON-Don “Jake” Jacobson has passed: a man of honor and of few words; he didn’t drink, gamble, lie or swear. He went to work every day, helped build a home for his family, was true to his wife, and was an artist at heart. As any true Viking would have done, he went into battle fighting courageously until he had to lay down his sword. Born in Eau Claire on June 2, 1929, Don went home on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, in hopes of meeting up with his father, Howard Jacobson; his mother, Marie Griffin; and brother, Sidney Jacobson. With tenderness and commitment, his devoted wife of 67 years cared for him the past year at home as his health declined. Their marriage was a strong partnership; each worked hard and cared deeply for their family. Don’s most impressionable moments of early adulthood were of his time in the military, enlisting at age 19 in the U.S. Army. Don served for four years from 1948-1952 in Hanau, Germany in the 63rd Chemical Base Depot & Maintenance Company. He dedicated 32 years of life to his work at Oscar Mayer, providing for his family and setting an example of hard work and high standards. He is survived by his wife, Hedwig Jacobson; his children, Don Jacobson of Algoma and Marie Jacobson of Madison; his son-in-law, Fred Fass of Madison; and three grandchildren, Tyler and Stuart Fass and Hedi Jacobson. A military graveside ceremony and burial will be held at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017. Lunch will follow services at ST. PAUL’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2126 N. Sherman Avenue, Madison. Memorials may be made to Senior Connections c/o St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2126 N. Sherman Avenue, Madison, WI 53704. A special thank you to the “girls” at Agrace HospiceCare, who shared many moments of silence, compassion and humor with him.
