Dog rescued after falling into icy pond

Madison firefighters rescued a dog from icy water Saturday after it ran out onto an icy pond at Warner Park Dog Park, according to a news release.
Fire officials said two people tried rescuing the dog, but they fell through the ice in the process. When Engine Co. 10 arrived, the people had gotten out of the water. According to the release, the dog was spotted 50 feet from the shore, still in the icy water.
One firefighter put on a life vest and safety rope before entering the cold water, the release said. Fire officials said he was able to hook the dog’s collar with a pike pole, pull it back onto the ice and return it to its owner.
