DNR plans hearings on deer recommendations

The Department of Natural Resources has scheduled nearly three dozen public hearings on the agency’s plans to implement deer management changes based on a Texas researcher’s recommendations.

The agency has scheduled the hearings at multiple locations around the state from Tuesday through Oct. 31. A complete list of dates and locations is available on the agency’s website.

Gov. Scott Walker’s administration hired James Kroll to study deer management and how the DNR can improve its relationship with hunters. The DNR has developed a number of proposals based on his report and ensuing comments, including lengthening deer seasons, allowing landowners more antlerless tags if they provide tissue samples to the DNR for study and establishing county committees on deer management and reducing the number of deer management zones.
