Different debuts for Packers’ Adams, Tretter

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Rookie receiver Davante Adams won’t use a driving rainstorm as an excuse for muffing a punt away in his Green Bay Packers preseason debut.
Second-year player JC Tretter thinks his first start as the team’s center went rather swimmingly for having to endure the wet weather in Tennessee.
The 20-16 loss Saturday to the Titans was memorable for different reasons for two young players expected to play key roles in Green Bay this season.
Coach Mike McCarthy liked how his team fared overall in the preseason opener, especially given the conditions.
Adams injured a wrist during the muffed punt that led to a Titans turnover. He sat out practice Monday, as did No. 1 receiver Jordy Nelson.
McCarthy said Nelson had a sore hamstring. Both players are considered day-to-day.
