Officials said Severson was assisting a tow truck operator along I-94 near County Road F on Sunday morning when an eastbound vehicle struck the back of his squad car.

Both Severson and the driver of the other vehicle were injured and taken from the scene for treatment. Sheriff’s officials said Severson was wearing his seatbelt when the crash occurred, which likely saved his life.
