Deputies investigate body found in parking lot

TOWN OF BURKE, Wis. — The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a body was found Thursday morning in a truck stop parking lot.
Deputies were called at 5:35 a.m. to the Pine Cone truck stop at 6161 U.S. Highway 51 in the town of Burke after an employee arriving for work noticed a man lying next to a sleeping bag in the parking lot.
Deputies performed chest compressions on the man until Madison paramedics arrived and took him to UW Health East Clinic, where the 36-year-old was pronounced dead.
Deputies said drug paraphernalia was found at the scene. Investigators did not see obvious signs of injury.
An autopsy will be conducted Thursday by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
