Deerfield–Dennis M. Flannery, 63, passed away from complications of chronic illness on Sunday February 7, 2016 at University Hospital, Madison.
Dennis was born February 27, 1952 in Chicago, IL, the son of John S. and Ann (O’Brien) Flannery. He was the second child in a family of five boys and two girls who grew up in Northbrook, IL.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 42 years, Prudence (nee Wiggins); three sons, Christopher (Emily) of Deerfield, Scot (Nicole) of Waukesha, Brandon of Waukesha; five loving grandchildren, Regan, Quinn, and Callan in Deerfield, Liam and Ian in Waukesha; a brother and two sisters, Terrence P. (Maria) of New Baltimore, NY, Ann M. Flannery (Rich) of Miramar, FL, and Mary L. Flannery-Day (Whitey) of Buffalo Grove, IL. Dennis will be joining his mother Ann, father John, mother-in-law Alice, and brothers John S., Brian T., and Timothy S. Flannery, and many other cherished departed in eternal memory.
Dennis loved camping and being outdoors. He was an active Boy Scout in his youth and was later very active with his sons in Boy Scouts. He served in many adult leadership roles with Troop 16 of St. John’s Church in Brookfield WI.
He was a varsity wrestler at Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, IL, where he met his wife Prudence. Dennis studied at Winona State University, University of Illinois, and Roosevelt University. Dennis and Prudence started a family in Vernon Hills, IL shortly before moving to Waukesha where his work as a computer programmer led him to a job in Milwaukee.
Dennis battled many health issues over the later part of life but he did so with courage and selflessness. He was a liver transplant recipient which led to a new crusade for him. He became a great resource to the organ transplant community in many ways, most notably in the Transplant Games which encourages transplant recipients to lead an active and rewarding life after transplant.
All who met Dennis were enriched by his wit and humor and will remember him fondly.
