Democratic voters are showing support for Mary Burke in the governor’s race primary where she faces only nominal opposition from state Rep. Brett Hulsey.

Jeff Schultz, of Racine, said he voted Tuesday for Burke over Hulsey, calling him a “nonfactor.”

Schultz says he likes Burke’s experience as a Madison school board member and former Trek Bicycles executive.

Gilbert Walker of Madison says he favors Burke over Hulsey because he believes she has a better chance at defeating Republican Gov. Scott Walker.

Voter Connie Laska of Madison is a Walker backer. He says the Nov. 4 general election will be “close.”

The past two Marquette University Law School polls released in May and July showed the race between Walker and Burke to be a dead heat.
