Delores Mae Nordness

Delores Mae Nordness, age 71, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2012, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born at home in Almond, on June 12, 1940, the daughter of Fred and Rose (Everett) Whitman. She moved to Madison after high school, and met Russ Nordness while working at Andy’s Candy Shop. They were married on May 14, 1960. She worked at Sears in the shoe department until her retirement in 2008. Delores enjoyed many crafts and hobbies, including scrapbooking, sewing, writing poetry and songs, and growing roses in her garden. Her family will remember her beautiful singing voice and her love for travel. Some of her favorite destinations include the deck of Old Ironsides in Boston, the Statue of Liberty, and frequent trips to Tulsa for workshops. She is survived by her husband, Russ; her children, Linda Oser, Robert Nordness, and Kathy (Tim) Thompson; her grandchildren, Erin, Christopher, Cody, Amanda, Stuart, and Rebekah; her great-grandchildren, Konner, Justine, Riley, and Hollyn; her brothers, Henry (Carol) Whitman, and Larry (Esther) Whitman; a sister-in-law, Martha Whitman; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at MANDRAKE ROAD CHURCH OF CHRIST, 4301 Mandrake Road, with Pastor Roy Ratcliff presiding. A visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, and also on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
