Defendant In Walker Aide Probe Is Hospitalized

A former Milwaukee County official appointed by Gov. Scott Walker while he was county executive is hospitalized and was unable to appear in court as part of an ongoing secret investigation.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Kevin Kavanaugh has an unspecified health problem and didn’t appear Monday in Milwaukee County court.

The 61-year-old is accused of five felonies for allegedly embezzling about $42,000 in donations intended to help military veterans and their families.

The judge ordered Kavanaugh to appear in court April 18 or he’ll issue a bench warrant for his arrest. Kavanaugh is free on a $20,000 signature bond.

Walker appointed Kavanaugh to the county Veterans Service Commission. Kavanaugh has pleaded not guilty to theft and fraud charges.
