Defendant in fatal Portage County crash has deadly record
Woman accused of drunken driving served jail time for incident that killed man in Illinois

STEVENS POINT, Wis. — Prosecutors said the woman charged in a fatal drunken driving crash in central Wisconsin has a record of another deadly driving incident in Illinois.
A criminal complaint filed in Portage County charges 23-year-old Hanna Schacht with homicide by drunken driving in the death of 51-year-old Daniel Wetzel, of Lanark.
Sheriff’s officials said Wetzel was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his son that pulled out of a driveway east of Stevens Point and was struck by Schacht’s vehicle Sunday morning. Sheriff’s officials said Schacht had a preliminary blood alcohol content of 0.15 after the crash.
Stevens Point Journal Media reported that a Portage County prosecutor said Schacht served jail time after a man fell from the roof of a vehicle she was driving in Woodstock, Ill., last year and died.
