David W. Glendenning

MIDDLETON – David W. Glendenning, age 85, of Middleton, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021, at Agrace HospiceCare.
While there, he had many comforting visits from friends and family. David was born on Sept. 18, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of John and Frances Glendenning.
David graduated from La Crosse Central High School. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years and was stationed in Lualualei, Hawaii and earned the rank of Petty Officer Third Class. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics/Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in 1960, where he lettered in track and field. He married his beloved wife, Sharon (Carlin) Glendenning on August 12, 1961, at Asbury Methodist Church, La Crosse, WI. David and Sharon began their married life in La Crosse and moved to Madison in 1968 where they planted their roots. This year they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
David began his professional career in La Crosse as a trust officer for La Crosse Trust Company, moved on to be an Assistant Administrator at Gunderson Clinic, and worked for a short time as an Assistant Personnel Director for the State Medical Society of Wisconsin. When he moved to Madison, he worked for Management Data Systems, Zimbrick Buick, and a 20-year career as Vice President of Information Services at Verex Corporation. He worked as Executive Vice President/General Manager of Madison Cutting Die, Inc. until his retirement. David was a past member of Common Council, City of La Crosse, past president of La Crosse Chapter – WI Alumni Association, and past member of the Jaycees. He was also a volunteer in United Fund activities for over 20 years.
In his free time, David enjoyed, fishing and spending time at his cottage in Manitowish Waters. He and Sharon spent many winters in Destin, Florida where they enjoyed the warm weather and good times with friends. David also enjoyed racquetball, curling, downhill skiing, and reading. His passion was golf. He was a long-time member of Cherokee Country Club. When he wasn’t playing golf, he was watching it on television. In October of 2006 he achieved a Hole-In-One on the 8th hole at the Bridges Golf Course. He enjoyed spending time with his dear friends and family, including all the family pets. He especially loved the time he spent with his Grandchildren.
David is survived by his wife, Sharon Glendenning; sons, Scott Glendenning and David Glendenning Jr.; daughter, Janice (Bryan) Douglas; five grandchildren, Joshua (Hailey Teel) Glendenning, Kara (Alex) Hoppe, Jocelyn Douglas, Sophia Douglas and Delaney Douglas; sisters-in-law, Cindy (Lee) Steckman and Rosie Glendenning; and two nieces and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Glendenning; sister-in-law, JoAnne Walter; brother-in-law, Jerry Walter; and nephew, John Walter.
A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, from 1 p.m until 3 p.m., on Saturday, May 29, 2021.
