David C. Hurd

MADISON – David C. Hurd, age 77, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Meriter Hospital. He was born on Jan. 29, 1935, in Madison, the son of Vernon and Rose (Allen) Hurd.

He married Ethel Rossing on June 4, 1955, in Mauston. David attended Longfellow Elementary and Middleton High School. After high school, he went to work at Findorff as an apprentice cabinetmaker. He was also employed at Don Simon Builders and the Madison Metropolitan School District as a cabinetmaker. He loved working with wood, turning his hobby into his livelihood. David enjoyed photography, trains, traveling the country, especially National Parks, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years; children, Betty Jane Hurd of Madison and Carolyn (Bob) Conway of Boulder, Colo.; grandchildren, Will and Rachel Conway; two sisters, Ruth (Arnie) Mier of Middleton, Beth (Russ) Gessler of Middleton; sisters-in-law, Esther Hurd and Mavis Fieber; along with numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by parents; his brothers, Jack, Bob (Hazel) and Dick Hurd; one sister, Vernona (Bill) Linley.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2012. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
