Dane County Humane Society releases rare cuckoo bird after months of treatment
MADISON, Wis. — The Dane County Humane Society’s Wildlife Center released a rare yellow-billed cuckoo bird to its natural habitat Saturday after months of treatment for injuries.
The center said the bird suffered bruising and feather loss after a collision with a car last summer.
The Humane Society raised more than $3,000 from donors to feed the bird, which required a special diet of caterpillars such as hornworms and waxworms.
Over the winter, Wildlife Center staff rehabilitated the cuckoo back to good health until it was ready to be released to rejoin fellow cuckoos on their migratory path.
