Dane County Deputies Increase New Year’s Patrols

The Dane County Sheriff’s Department is issuing a warning for the New Year’s weekend: A huge patrol team out on area roads.

Extra patrols will start Thursday night through Saturday.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is funding specialized deployments — to keep drunken drivers off the streets.

“There’s absolutely no excuse, no excuse at all for driving drunk,” said Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney. “It risks the lives of innocent drivers and those who choose to drive drunk and those who continue to defy the warnings.”

Sheriff Mahoney is encouraging those who will be drinking to find a safe ride.
