Dane County begins construction on 90-acre Yahara Solar Project
COTTAGE GROVE, Wis. — Dane County began construction Tuesday on a 90-acre solar project in Cottage Grove.
The Yahara Solar Project will fulfill the county’s goal of powering all county facilities with 100% renewable electricity. The project is scheduled to begin operation early next year.
“Our clean energy partnership with Alliant Energy and SunVest Solar results in Dane County achieving our goal,” County Executive Joe Parisi said. “I’m proud that our county is the first in the state and just a handful in the nation to achieve this renewable energy accomplishment.”
This is the largest renewable energy project undertaken by the county, almost twice the size of the solar installation at Dane County Regional Airport. The 17-megawatt site will house over 33,000 solar panels, producing enough energy to power 3,000 Dane County homes.
Alliant Energy will be responsible for delivering power from the site to its customers. At its peak, the construction of the site will create about 70 jobs.
