Dane Co. Airport solar project generates enough power for over 1,200 homes

The project generated over 12 million kilowatt-hours of energy in its first nine months

MADISON, Wis. — A solar project at Dane County Regional Airport has generated enough power to sustain over 1,200 Wisconsin homes for a year, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced Wednesday.

Parisi, along with Madison Gas and Electric CEO Jeff Keebler, announced that the 9-megawatt project generated over 12 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy in its first nine months of operation.

“Not only is the project reducing county operating costs, but it also created local job opportunities during the pandemic,” Parisi said in a statement Wednesday. “Clean energy efforts like this one benefit our environment, the local economy, and Dane County taxpayers.”

The project is made up of around 31,000 solar panels spanning 58 acres north of the airport on county-owned land, and is part of Dane County’s goal to run county facilities on 100% renewable energy by 2024.
